The Case for Change

Chapter One

The story starts here.

The case for change

Build more than facilities.
Build a system that changes opportunity.

The Warwickshire Valkyries vision brings grassroots sport, women and girls, wellbeing, education, skills, community and performance into one connected proposition. A building alone does not create change. A better-connected system could.

Why this matters

The opportunity gap is real.

These are external research findings, not Warwickshire Valkyries impact claims.

girls than boys play team sport

Local evidence and programme data should be added as the Foundation develops. Targets, economic values and outcome claims should only be published when the underlying evidence can support them.

One project. Multiple outcomes.

Explore the case.

01

Strong systems start at the base.

Connect clubs, coaches, volunteers and participants so grassroots sport is part of the development pathway, not separate from it.

Impact framework

Measure what changes.
Not just what gets built.

These are measures the Foundation intends to develop and track. They are not presented as achievements or targets already delivered.

01
Participation

People reached and taking part

Track participation across Foundation-supported programmes, with appropriate demographic and location breakdowns.

Measurement note

Add baselines and targets only when evidence exists.

02
Grassroots clubs

Clubs and community organisations supported

Track practical support, partnerships and programme connections that strengthen grassroots sport.

Measurement note

Report delivered activity rather than projected reach.

03
Coaching

Coaches developed

Track learning, mentoring, qualifications and development opportunities.

Measurement note

Separate formal qualifications from informal learning.

04
Volunteering

Volunteers involved and developed

Track opportunities, hours, skills and progression where systems allow.

Measurement note

Do not convert hours into social value without an agreed methodology.

05
Women & girls

Participation, retention and progression

Understand whether women and girls join, remain involved and progress through sport, coaching, volunteering and leadership.

Measurement note

Measure where people leave as well as where they progress.

06
Wellbeing

Wellbeing and belonging outcomes

Use appropriate evaluation to understand confidence, connection, activity and wellbeing.

Measurement note

Outcome claims require an agreed evaluation method.

07
Skills & opportunity

Education, qualifications and employment pathways

Track training, qualifications, placements, mentoring and employment opportunities.

Measurement note

Separate verified outcomes from opportunities offered.

08
Partnerships

Active delivery and strategic partnerships

Track organisations contributing delivery, evidence, expertise, resources or pathways.

Measurement note

Define an active partnership before publishing totals.

09
Future campus

Usage, access and community benefit

If a campus is delivered, track who uses it and whether intended community benefits are realised.

Measurement note

This is a future measure, not a current campus metric.

How change could happen

From resource to lasting value.

01Inputs

People, partnerships, evidence, expertise, funding and eventually infrastructure.

02Activity

Programmes, coaching, engagement, learning, research and participation.

03Outcomes

Skills, confidence, activity, belonging, stronger pathways and opportunity.

04Long-term impact

A stronger sporting ecosystem with community benefit embedded in how it operates.

Turn evidence into action

Help strengthen the case.

Grassroots experience, research, funding, land, health, education, sport and community knowledge can all strengthen different parts of the journey.

Straight answers

Clear answers help people, search engines and AI systems distinguish current work from future ambition.

What is Warwickshire Valkyries Foundation?

The Warwickshire Valkyries Foundation is being established as a female-first sport, community, education and wellbeing initiative in Warwickshire.

Is Warwickshire Valkyries only about rugby?

No. Rugby is the starting sport, but the wider vision includes other sport, education, wellbeing, community activity, skills and performance pathways.

What is Valkyries House?

Valkyries House is the proposed first major hub in the long-term Warwickshire Valkyries vision. It should not be interpreted as an existing or approved facility.

Has a site been secured for the campus?

The public website should not describe a site as secured, selected or approved unless the Foundation formally confirms that status.

What is the Founding 100?

The Founding 100 is the original founding cohort concept: 100 places, 100 founders, one shared legacy.

How can organisations support the project?

Organisations can support individual stages such as community programmes, evidence, feasibility, land, design, skills, research, capital delivery or long-term operation.

Does someone need to fund the whole campus?

No. The project is structured in stages so a partner or funder can help move a specific part of the journey forward.

How does the project support grassroots sport?

Grassroots and community delivery are intended to begin before any future campus. The campus is the destination; community impact is the journey.
